Your first 14 days after lip filler: a simple lip-care routine

Lips can feel tight, tender and dry in the days after filler. A good routine won't change your result, but it can make those days a lot more comfortable. Here's the simple rhythm we suggest to clients. Your own injector's aftercare instructions always come first.

Day 0: leaving the chair

• Keep your hands away from your lips. Fresh injection sites and fingertips don't mix.
• Apply a thin layer of a clean, fragrance-light lip product with an applicator rather than your fingers.
• Skip lipstick and long-wear formulas for now unless your injector says otherwise.

Days 1–3: the tender days

• Reapply every few hours, or whenever lips feel tight.
• Sip water often. Dry indoor air pulls moisture from lips fast.
• Follow any guidance your injector gave about cold compresses, exercise, heat and alcohol.

Days 4–14: settling in

• Move to morning and night, plus whenever you want shine.
• A thicker layer before bed does the most, since lips go longest without care overnight.
• Keep a tube in your bag so you're not tempted to lick dry lips.

When to call your injector

Some swelling and tenderness is common. Contact your provider promptly if you notice anything that worries you, including increasing pain, skin color changes, blanching or blistering. Don't wait it out.
